Religion

Humming along with the birds
my foot tip-toed
to the music of the world

Wearing a t-shirt inside out
I clasped the hands
of the one, whose eyes were
hardly popping out of his extra-large kufi cap

People don’t get miffed
when we cut their queue
instead, they smile
The cloud made hands
waited for the prasad to be shared with her friend
“This is given in temple, I shouldn’t eat this
my mom will smack me if I swallow some”
whispered a voice clutching my palm
The 5 year old me gazed him and his mom terrified
where, his mom grinned
the approval signal to eat
“You both are my god”
The veiled woman unveiled her beautiful heart
by embracing both of us with the same warmth.

*

Burn the woods, fencing the bricks
NO!
Spray the holy water
to clean the dirt on her skirt, they quarreled.
This will never change
even if the same wood turn them into ash
and get immersed in their holy water,
said the Krishna of my house to the 10 year old me.

*

“Sunday masses starts at 6pm and …..”
the interval bell chewed the rest of her words
dressing up, I entered the big hall of
bells and criss-crosses
winking at her,
I happily knelt down for the next 2 hours.
The love you have in your heart is god,
said the Mary matha of my home
by blessing the 15 year old me.

*

The blood stains of honor killing
increased day by day
and no one gave a f*ck
Instead, the anklets stepping into Sabarimala hollered nationwide
Why?
Why so?
Which holy book taught you to disturb someone’s peace?
the 20 year old me screamed

*

The church benches are sinking
in a pool of blood
by the bomb you boomed
There is still an echo of the small girl
her soul squalling at every wall of your temple
and now a moment #Boycott what?
Enough
Enough is enough!
The guns must be loaded with flowers
and shot at every person you meet
without any trigger.
All we do in our life
is to Lo(i)ve a little more.
And here the 25 year old me says,
If love and peace is your religion, count me in.
